So I was finally able to start my internship last week and let me tell you it is a lot of work. Within just two days I learned how to read police reports, input them into a database and started memorizing crime codes of what incidents happen. Now I am pretty confined by confidentiality rights but I'm sure you can think of a few things that come to mind when I say, "We help to serve those who are victims of a violent crime". You can only imagine what kind of stories of victims I have read. They range from mild to "Oh my gosh, this is painful to read". It's not like I wasn't blinded from the fact that it happens just actually reading reports about people that it happened to, well it's an eye opener. It's both equally sad and interesting. I like the fact that I might be able to actually help victims get some justice from something they had no control over. I've been opened up to so many more opportunities and I can't wait to see what's in store for me the rest of the summer.

Summer Internship at San Mateo District Attorney's Office
Hey everyone!
I'm Tayler Martinez and will be a sophomore next year. I chose to do this internship because I plan on going to law school after Linfield and am exploring different areas of the law. I am specifically working in the Victim Services center where I will deal with police reports of people who were victimized in crime and send the reports to the state to approve for restitution or any money they can grant to the victim. We help set up hearings and/ or counseling for the victims as well.
My goals for the internship are gain a better understanding of the crime codes I will be dealing with everyday reading police reports, being able to eventually call the victims and help them directly on top of filing their reports, and to gain insight on if I want to go into this area of law.

My Summer in San Diego! Cork and Platter Intern
Hello fellow interns and Kristi!
This is my first blog for my summer internship in San Diego, California! It feels amazing to be here, and since my last internship experience was extremely challenging my current position is a entirely welcomed and exciting. I am the social media intern for San Diego's favorite food stylist, caterer, and party planning chef - Maria Sparks. While I just started my internship last week, working and learning with Chef Sparks has been an absolute blast thus far! Chef Sparks is warm, bubbly, incredibly talented, bright, and innovative. She seems to do it all - and well! Her passion for food is contagious, and she is awesome to be around.
Last week Chef Sparks had me come to my first event at a beautiful design studio in La Jolla, California. The venue itself was breathtaking, it was a magazine party for an interior design magazine called Luxe. Chef Sparks served incredible appetizers, and her plating made the food look like works of art. Throughout the event I took pictures and mingled with people, telling them about our new Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts for Cork and Platter! The pictures I took can be seen on our various social media accounts, in hopes to spread the word about the many talents Chef Sparks has!
Earlier this week I attended a phenomenal wedding photo shoot at the beach for Chef Sparks. She styled the food for the shoot, and while I can't disclose what the shoot was for exactly at this time, it was an incredible experience for me to be a part of! Chef Sparks works with such grace and precision, it's truly inspiring!
I can't wait to see what else this summer and Chef Sparks has in store for me!

Welcome to your summer internship!
Welcome to your summer internship! I hope it is with excitement that you begin this experience. Throughout the summer, about every two weeks, I will post questions here that we will discuss.
First, please introduce yourself, include who you are, where you are interning, why you chose to do an internship... anything else you want us to know.
What are your goals for the internship?
Internship defined: An internship is typically a one-time work or services experience related to a student's major or career goal. The internship plan generally involved students working in professional settings under the supervision and monitoring of practicing professionals.
